Evolution of our flag pageant at scout meeting
A pageant depicting the evolution of the American flag will highlight the Eastern New Mexico Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America annual meeting at The Woman's Club on February 17. Scout Leonard Stolaroff of Troop 4 Roswell will give an oration about flags, as twelve scouts present exact copies of historic official flags. McGhee to Set Chaves Docket Next Tuesday
Judge James B. McGhee will be in Roswell next Tuesday to set Chaves county civil cases for trial during the two weeks beginning Monday February 27. He will finish up in Lovington this week and drive to Roswell Monday. He will call the Chaves county docket on Tuesday of next week and will hear motions and demurrers here on Thursday. On Wednesday he will hear some Eddy county cases in Artesia. During the week beginning Monday February 20 he will hold court for Eddy county in Carlsbad. Then for two weeks beginning Monday February 27 he will hear Chaves county cases in Roswell.

Commissioners Cancel Three Fire Insurance Policies
Chaves County Commissioners by phone yesterday authorized canceling three fire insurance policies on county property. The three policies total 17,250 dollars with annual premiums 78.88 dollars, expiring this month. Policy removals include 2,250 dollars on the courthouse, 5,000 dollars on the record books and law library, and 10,000 dollars on the jail, leaving 189,250 dollars, 20,000 dollars, and 25,000 dollars respectively after cancellations.

Winter returns to New Mexico with subzero temps
Albuquerque February 10 subzero temperatures spread across the state as snow fell in the west and north central. Raton logged 22 below zero for four consecutive days, Gallup reported 10 below with light snow, Albuquerque cooled from 44 above to five above, and Las Vegas unofficially showed eight below. Air bombs end mutiny aboard Dutch warship
In Batavia two days after dawn off Sumatra coast the Dutch cruiser De Zeven Provincien faced a mutiny. A naval plane bombed the deck, killing eighteen and injuring twenty five as Dutch air and sea forces closed in. Europeans and Javanese were among the dead. A Dutch officer and a youth were wounded. The mutineers refused to surrender despite a 10 minute ultimatum and a demand to display a white flag.

Funds sought to open Eastern Normal at Portales
Santa Fe February 10 AP Funds to start operation of the Ghost School Eastern New Mexico Normal at Portales were sought by Sen Mears Rep Howard and Mrs Forman. Built five years ago the school has no faculty students or equipment beyond the building. About 54 906 from lands granted to the Normal School could be recalled to open it. Furnishings and repairs would need 18 600 and operating costs 45 000 more.
