A Galveston dispatch reports Mrs. J P Morgan of New York robbed in Texas before El Paso while traveling with Mrs J N Nappen of Providence and Mrs J Meredith of New York. The private car was entered and jewelry valuables and a large sum taken.
In Jackson Kentucky on February 8 Judge James Hargis was shot and killed by his drunken son. His burial was today in the small family plot with the steel casket. Nearby lie the graves of three brothers who were also shot by enemies. The murderer asked to see his father’s body and knelt to say Lord have mercy.

Sam Jones returned this morning from Orchard Park where he is plastering the second floor of four 1500 dollar bungalows Harry Wait is building on his 320 acre tract. Wait will have a beautiful place when complete. The whole tract will be irrigated from one large artesian well.
Russell performs horse shoeing. Last night at 11 45 a barrel was set afire on the rear lot of the First National bank building and a fire alarm was sounded. Authorities warn the prank could lead to a harsh fine if the culprit is identified by the fire department or city officials.

F R Ellis of Glen visited town on business. Charleston Feb 8 The state senate appointed a three member committee to conduct a strict inquiry into reports that the liquor lobby plans to raise 150000 dollars to influence votes against the pending prohibition amendment and defeat its passage in the senate.

Workmen removing gravel at the Haynes and Bonney pit uncovered a lower jawbone and other human bones buried ten to twelve feet deep, preserved in a load of coal atop the gravel. The jaw is large and well preserved, with search for more remains underway. A mastodon tusk and two teeth were found in the same pit about a year ago, the tusk six feet long.

The remains of Ed Collard who died Monday night at G. M. James’s home in Orchard Park were shipped this morning to his former home in Galion Ohio. His brother W F Collard traveled with the body arriving last night unaware of his brother’s death, having come in response to a plea that he was very ill. Ed Collard was about thirty years old and had come to Roswell two years ago seeking treatment for consumption. Both brothers were members of the Galion lodge of Odd Fellows.
A seller advertises ready-to-plant fruit trees including cherries pears prunes plums peaches raspberries blackberries gooseberries and currants. The stock is available cheap by the shop on South Main Street with likely limited quantity.

The jury reached its verdict about three hours after Judge Hunt gave final instructions.
