Roswell Youth and Father Die In Nevada Plane Crash

Michael Helton age 21 and his father Col Billy J Helton of Nellis Air Force Base were in a light plane in the Sagebrush Triangle north of Las Vegas when a downdraft hit them. After four days a rescue team reached the site and found Michael dead. Col Helton walked out seeking help through freezing weather.

New Mexico Rehabilitation Center Roswell budget approved

The House Appropriations and Finance Committee unanimously backed a $2,089,700 operating budget for the New Mexico Rehabilitation Center at Roswell Industrial Air Center for the coming fiscal year through June 30, 1979. The plan adds 13.2 percent, but forecasts a $24,600 shortfall to be covered by DVR funds.

Police indictments lead to 3 arrests in Chaves County

Three people were arrested Monday on grand jury indictments in Chaves County. Ron Patterson 27 of Bakersfield California charged with four counts of forgery with a 2500 bond. Donald Graves 27 of Mississippi Avenue charged with two counts of issuing worthless checks with 1500 bond but held from Texas State Penitentiary. Leonard Liveoak 29 of Artesia charged with auto theft released on 2000 bond. Grand jury has handed down 25 indictments so far.
