U S Senator Pete Domenici told New Mexico lawmakers he plans federal legislation to let states decide the location of nuclear waste disposal within their borders and to require licensing for all commercial waste facilities. He noted federal law does not grant veto power to states on pilot facilities.
Michael Helton 21 and his father Col Billy J Helton 45 crashed their light Cessna in the Sagebrush Triangle area about 50 miles northwest of Las Vegas during a search for a prior O 2 crash. Bill aided Mike before frostbite and injuries left him in hospital. Weather hampered rescue with multiple crashes in the area.

A courthouse building supervisor and boiler room technician for three years he has lived in Roswell a decade. He proposes Saturday court hours and faster action on drug users and shoplifters and believes open coverage helps public trust. He and his widow have one son, William Jr., 25.
