Richard M. Nixon begins a week of political engagements visiting New York Chicago Des Moines Detroit and Columbus after a post election silence. He will meet former President Hoover and General MacArthur and attend a Look magazine dinner hosted by Gardiner Cowles. VALDOSTA GA AP Bed pushing, the college craze, reaches the Deep South as Sigma Phi Epsilon plans to roll a brass bed into Tallahassee. Florida State Patrol blocks the stunt citing three week safety planning. The group then changes course, pushing the bed 59 miles to South Georgia College in Douglas with Miss Mary Dickey aboard. Funeral arrangements are with Ballard Funeral Home for Salvador Salazar 33 of 717 FE Hendricks Roswell. He died Wednesday in Albuquerque Veterans Hospital after being injured at Roswell City Jail March 28 and remaining unconscious. He lived in Roswell about five years and was once employed by the city. Born June 24 1928 in Lincoln New Mexico he married Roberta Chavez in Roswell on Sept 14 1952. He was a member of St Johns Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife four sons Joe Robert Richard and Jimmy a daughter Roberta Ann and three sisters Jane Gonzales Louise Silva all of Roswell.
The Roswell Fire Department will sponsor the Grand Ole Opry in Roswell on May 16 with two shows 7 and 9 p.m. Performers include Jim Reeves James O Gwynn Claude Gray and the Blue Boy Band led by Fire Chief George Daniels announced the event details.

Maude Redmond Pieper 78 of 113 W. Bland died in Las Vegas New Mexico early Wednesday. She had lived in Roswell about 14 years born June 14 1883 in St Joseph Michigan married Will H Pieper in Amarillo May 20 1908 and is survived by a son Donald Pieper of Roswell two sisters and two grandchildren Funeral services will be held under N S Griggs and Sons Amarillo with burial at Llano Cemetery Ballard's Funeral Home handling local arrangements.

Gallup AP state police may have spoken with two men sought in the kidnapping of a 27 year old Tohatchi man hours before the abduction. At Vandenberg California the Air Force fired the Titan from underground in a test to prove bomb proof launches. The 98 foot two stage missile rose from a 146 foot deep silo then was destroyed at sea by radio impulse. The test demonstrated Titan can withstand underground launch pressures and sound waves as part of disrupting attack plans.
Grants AP Autopsy ordered in death of Roy Johnston 42 found shot in his trailer. Police say coroner's jury returned open verdict pending autopsy and paraffin tests to determine if Johnston fired the shot. Neighbors reported a Sunday argument between Johnston and a woman. A .762 caliber German rifle was found on the bed beside the body.
