Navajo Anti Peyote Ordinance Faces Suit

The Native American Church of North America plans to sue to challenge the Navajo Tribal Council anti peyote ordinance affecting about 30,000 Navajo. The measure targets only the Navajo Reservation and questions Congress authority for Interior Secretary approval. The ordinance originated in 1940 and became part of the Interior Department’s Indian Law and Order Code.
