President Nixon urged Congress to cooperate in pursuing a fresh approach to government amid budget disputes. He called for a constructive working relationship across party lines while stressing foreign policy credibility and restraint on domestic spending and taxation.
Henry Kissinger told CBS Marvin Kalb that Nixon’s Peking and Moscow visits helped make the Vietnam settlement possible and pave the way for a new global relationship. He warned peace depends on Vietnamese actions and on the behavior of the Soviet Union and China, and on U.S. adherence to the cease-fire.
A Roswell meeting will hear U S Senate and House views on an interstate designation for U S 70 from Sen. Joe Montoya and Rep. Harold Runnels. Fort Worth police Lt Oliver Ball says a 39-year-old transient questioned about Paige Applegate’s death has been cleared. Her body was found under a West Fort Worth underpass. investigators say she was raped and her neck broken by a karate blow. The man remained in Chaves County Jail on vagrancy charges before release.
