Family and students rescued from flood risk near Silver City
A family of four and a group of college students were rescued separately on Christmas after becoming trapped in a canyon near Silver City as floodwaters rose. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine Operations used helicopters because local crews faced high winds and sleet. Rescued individuals, ages undisclosed, were campers and hikers in the Gila National Forest and were screened and found in good health.
