Mexican Troops Struggle With Insurgents In Chihuahua

In Chihuahua Mexico General Navarro failed to capture Malpass despite earlier reports. Heavy losses occurred over two days of fighting as a government troop train linking with Navarre was reportedly fired upon with many killed and wounded. Sixty wounded were to be brought to the city. A passenger train near La Junta remains missing. Navarro reported insurgents receiving up to two thousand reinforcements. Friday saw a reversal of the previous day’s gains.

Harris Sentenced to Six to Ten Years in the Penitentiary

Harris, convicted of murder for killing C. W. Merchant Jr. in Eddy County last fall, drew a sentence of six to ten years after age verification showed he was at least 18. Jim Walker received a similar range of one to two years for cow stealing, with transport to Santa Fe planned for the prisoners under guard.

Prisoners Sentences and Transfer Orders Tour Torrance to Santa Fe

Fourteen teen prisoners are moved from the jail with twelve sent to the pen and two to the reform school. The group travels from Torrance to Santa Fe and then to Spring er where the reform school sits. Prisoners named include Bat Harris Vol ney Musgrave Jack Davis Doniciano Aguilar Elza White W J Satter white Park Edmondson Charles Garner Amado Guertas John Hart James Magill Roscoe Spriggs and Howard Howell. Jack Padgitt remains as a witness then returns to the penitentiary. Attorney D W Elliott requests an appeal bond of 5 000 for Volney Musgrave and Judge Pope orders safekeeping at Santa Fe during the bond. Jailer Young still holds two prisoners Lee Smith and Mrs Della Raplee at St Marys hospital with Smith ill and Raplee undergoing an operation.

Sheep Herder Arrested After Shoot at Roswell-Area Camp

Francisco Ramos a Mexican sheep herder was arrested after firing a Win chester at employer Hugh Davis at the Davis sheep camp forty miles north of Roswell last Friday. Davis said he paid another man $15 to take Ramos away after wages dispute and Ramos pulled the trigger three times. the first two caps snapped and the third shot missed as Davis fled. Ramos will have a hearing later.

Williams and Lockart Quietly Marry at Home

Mr. M. S. Williams and Mrs. E P Lockart wed at nine o clock last night in the home of Mrs. Lockart s daughter at 410 South Kentucky. Rev P T Ramsey officiated before close relatives. They reside at 810 North Missouri and are active in the Southern M B E church with Williams as superintendent and Lockart a Sunday school teacher.

NIMITZ Evening Program Features Pecos Valley Slides

Nimitz to show Pecos Valley views from the Chicago exposition and have Haynes Burrus sing on Wednesday evening. The Nimtz will present the slides along with the regular program of new moving pictures and vaudeville. Santa Fe president E. P. Ripley says railroads would view Roosevelt negatively as a 1912 candidate. He criticizes progressive government as destructive, adds railroads expect no help from either Republicans or Democrats, and condemns current legislation as excessive.

Temple Iron Company Enjoined in Illegal Combination

The United States circuit court in Philadelphia ruled that the Temple Iron Company was controlled by Reading and other anthracite railroads and banned it from doing business. Editor Treadwell Sues Diggins After Fatal Shootings At Rock Lake

Wick Lake North Dakota December 20 editor Treadwell of the Rock Lake Apples is jailed after a shooting rampage that left Diggins with a lung wound and Bills with a neck wound. Diggins denied theft of whiskey from the editor’s office and resisted, leading to a confrontation and gunfire. Both wounded men are expected to recover.

Tague Held on Murder Arson Charges in Durham Inquiry

A Black man is charged with criminal assault murder and arson. He was rushed to Durham for safekeeping and will be moved to the state penitentiary after today’s inquest. The bodies are believed to be Mr Sanders his daughter Mary and a two year old. A large bloodstained pocket knife found near the hair was identified as Montague s. The suspect was found at home resisted but was subdued and taken into custody.
