Public domain clock ticks for Mickey and friends
Mickey Mouse begins entering public domain with the 1928 Steamboat Willie, allowing non modern depictions to be used. Disney notes modern versions remain protected and will defend against consumer confusion while trade marks persist. Other works entering the public domain include Winnie the Pooh and The Threepenny Opera.
