J Walter Day arrives in Roswell from Amarillo with his bride Miss Zilah Price. The couple wed October 31 in Hale Center Texas and will guest at The Silkeson while visiting Roswell before settling in Amarillo.
Washington reports show President Roosevelt and the Interstate Commerce Commission tackling a nationwide railcar shortage. Pittsburg December 17 reports National Bank Examiner John B. Cunningham charges Cashier J B F Rinehart of the Farmers and Drovers National Bank of Waynesburg with eight counts of false reporting. The bank closed by the comptroller amid alleged discrepancies totaling 950000. False entries allegedly hid true condition, with notes and bills rediscounted and assets misrepresented. Rinehart reportedly to surrender to authorities today.
A J Welter announces candidacy for Justice of the Peace in the First Precinct. Born October 11 1846 in Memphis Tennessee, he grew up in Cherokee County Alabama. He enlisted in the Confederate army at sixteen and served under Gen Joe Wheeler. He was wounded July 31 1864 during the Andersonville raid. His entire company was captured by Wheeler's command.
The Mahznra Minstrels arrived by special car in Roswell Sunday morning and gave a noon parade. They perform tonight and tomorrow at Pilant's Hall. D. P. Bell left for Cass county Missouri, and Charles C. Tannehill heads to Chicago. Presbyterian church members plan a reception tomorrow evening at the Gilkeson Hotel to meet Mrs. E. L. Davis, an event expected to be social highlight.
Roswell coal supply is tight with traders reporting very low stocks for the coming week. Roswell Trading Company just received one car, while Roswell Wool and Hide Co. has ten to twelve cars but cannot meet daily railroad and light company demand. Pecos Valley Trading Co. is out of coal. All firms expect replenishments daily as the town faces a week of potential shortages.
B Owens trades 120 acres east of town to Medley farm for 2 acres in Bailey county Texas valued at 42000. The 120 acres include 57 acres of alfalfa 23 acres of an orchard and 13 acres of young trees.
The O E S will hold the installation of officers at the regular meeting tomorrow at 730 o clock by order of the Worthy Matron.
Washington December 17 William H Moody formerly Attorney General is sworn in as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. His appointment fills the court to full membership.
In New Orleans on December 17 a Texas and Pacific passenger train No 51 derailed near Waterport injuring several riders. Fireman Myers died, C J was badly scalded, and two others had minor injuries. It is the third recent attempt to derail the same train.
In Moscow on December 17 thirty members of the revolutionary fighting organization were arrested in the Baemenoff quarter.
Ben 8 Allison of Lake Arthur and Stella May Hall of Roswell will wed Tuesday evening at eight at Mrs Bemis's North Richardson home. Rev John Murray will officiate in the presence of relatives. The couple will reside in a Lake Arthur cottage on Allison ranch.
Washington December 17 The President sent a message to Congress urging vigorous immediate action to recast the public land laws. He voiced grave concern over the markedly unsatisfactory conditions and widespread fraud under current statutes.
City Marshal J. J. Roscoe states it is illegal to fire fire crackers anywhere in the city at any time unless a mayoral proclamation grants the special right. No proclamation has been issued yet, and the marshal will enforce the law.
The Woman's Club holds its regular meeting Wednesday at 2 30 PM at the Carnegie Library. Leader Mrs H F M Bear assisted by Miss Rodkey and Mrs W H Pope discuss Louis XI to Henry II.
There will be a luncheon and official meeting of the Boards of Trustees and Stewards of the M E church South tomorrow Tuesday at 6 00 o clock p m at the parsonage.

Fawcett Outer Guard. Installation set for the first January meeting.
The Odd Fellows announce work in the third degree tonight with the Grand Master of the Territory in attendance. All members and visiting brothers are urged to attend.
