Pioneer 8 launches to study solar flight risks and space weather

Cape Kennedy launches Pioneer 8, an interplanetary weather scout, aboard a Delta rocket to orbit the sun. The mission aims to map solar radiation and predict flares to safeguard Apollo crews, while testing an orbiting relay satellite for the space tracking network. Clardy Farms Nears Completion Giant Jersey Dairy Complex

Clardy Farms Oasis Ranch inches toward completion of one of the world’s largest all Jersey dairy operations under Carl Clardy. When finished around August 1 1968 the facility will house about 2000 cattle with 1200 milking, featuring a 148 by 76 foot milking barn, automated systems for cow movement feeding and milking, a pink maternity and nursery wing, and a 3000 ton cubed hay storage. annual intake includes 10 000 hay and ensilage and 2000 tons grain.

Congress Clears Decks In Push for Adjournment

Congress moves toward weekend adjournment after approving a $5.4 billion three step federal pay raise for 5.5 million workers and servicemen and boosting postal rates. It also authorizes a $1.61 billion OEO appropriation, cuts 10 percent across federal agencies, and includes a Social Security rise plan. The pay raise totals $54 billion by 1969 with staged increases and rate hikes for mail. The bill also bans hiring relatives by officials.
