Bodmer Native American Aquatints Return to North Dakota
More than two dozen Bodmer aquatints depicting Upper Missouri tribes from 1839 to 1843 return to North Dakota via a gift enabling the State Historical Society to buy four of the 26 works. The set, created with watercolors and hand tinting, covers Fort Union Mandan village Arikara and Sioux subjects, with plans to exhibit them publicly. Proceeds from sales may aid contemporary Native efforts, as donors and historians note the pieces’ historic and educational value.
