Levi Barnett longtime Pecos Valley farmer died last night at a Carlsbad hospital after peptic ulcers and two blood transfusions. He came to the valley in 1915 and lived near Hagerman, served on the Chaves county board of commissioners and Hagerman school board. He was 55, born in Indian Territory, survived by wife and six children and several siblings in Oklahoma. Funeral set for Hagerman Presbyterian Church with Rev. Harold Dye officiating.

Chicago December 6 nine people perished when a United Air Lines 21 passenger mainliner crashed near the Chicago municipal airport. A 15 year old Des Moines girl Vivian Godfrey was treated in San Bernardino California for head and internal injuries after she told authorities an automobile driver who had given her a ride from Clovis New Mexico to Albuquerque earlier persuaded her to continue to California from Albuquerque. County hospital physicians say she was attacked.
