Mrs Loma Pickering of 321 East 6th Street was in critical condition at St Marys hospital after her Oldsmobile coach skidded on a soft shoulder at Bottomless Lakes State Park and overturned into the lake. A man rescued her and a passenger, H N Blake of one mile southeast of Roswell, escaped serious injury. Blake reportedly exited the water unaided. The car dropped four feet into seven feet of water. investigation by Sheriff Frank Young determined the accident occurred Sunday afternoon.

Reid served as captain in the first territorial U S infantry in the Spanish American War and was longtime Santa Fe railway solicitor and leader of the New Mexico Reclamation Association.
