State Tax Commission to order 12 1 2 percent property valuation rise
Byron O. Beall of the State tax commission notified the Chaves county assessor that the commission will order a 12 1 2 percent increase in valuations on all real estate and improvements in the county except grazing land. This raises valuations on classes cut by county commissioners by 25 percent, halving that reduction. The net effect is a 12 1 2 percent reduction in those property valuations. The formal order would be issued immediately. The move follows a prior budget hearing where a valuation increase was deemed necessary to balance the budget.
