In South Charleston West Virginia a hydrochloric acid spill occurred Monday night at a Union Carbide facility near a 60,000 person outdoor concert. Authorities said the leak was contained quickly and no injuries were reported. The incident prompted emergency response measures and onward coverage.
Lincoln County Sheriff Tom Sullivan urged District Attorney James Weldon to step aside and allow a special prosecutor to resume the McKnight murder investigation. Weldon rejected the idea, while Sullivan proposed a grand jury probe into Weldon's handling and potential witness intimidation.
Six people were killed and two injured after an empty cattle truck crashed head on with a car carrying eight near Fort Sumner New Mexico on U S 60. Deming St. Unknown suspects entered through an unlocked rear door and took electronics including a Curtis Mathes TV valued at 1100, a VCR 800, two Curtis Mathes speakers 250, Tekia receiver 450, two large speakers 300, Realistic cassette player 250, a box of tapes 100, totaling 3300 dollars.

Marilyn Jewett Locations and National Special Events Locations charge 1500 to 20000 dollars per day and list sites including a Dallas filmed Georgian Colonial in Hancock Park a 1924 Frank Lloyd Wright house in Los Feliz and the former Liberace estate in Hollywood.
Senate President Pro Tempore Les Houston announced he and his wife Diane have left the Democratic Party for the Republican Party. The move shifts the New Mexico Senate from a 21-21 split to 22 Republicans and 20 Democrats, giving the GOP a clear majority. Houston cited ideological changes and a desire to align with conservative principles, stating the Democratic Party now serves "extreme liberal groups" contrary to working people and small business. Democratic Sen. Caleb Chandler said the change does not alter Senate philosophy but ends the conservative coalition. Roswell Sen. Tim Jennings noted the shift had been anticipated as part of a long‑running trend.
