Washington reports that Henry A. Kissinger’s nomination to replace William P. Rogers as secretary of state is expected to strengthen the Nixon administration’s ability to carry out its foreign policy agenda. The move follows Nixon’s decision to elevate Kissinger to the top diplomatic post.
Kissinger, noted as Nixon's top foreign policy strategist, moves to secretary of state as Rogers resigns. Nixon touts the shift as a push for warmer ties with China and the Soviet Union, with Kissinger also serving as national security adviser.
New York AP report describes Valeries Craft, 23, as Miss Nude America yet fully dressed at a press conference. She explained she wore a bra for health reasons and noted she dislikes nudity unless necessary. Someone in the crowd teased her with the title.
Forecast for Roswell and vicinity calls for mostly fair to partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures through Friday. Light to moderate winds. Highs near 97 degrees and overnight lows around 64 degrees.
The 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals affirmed H. Rap Brown's 1968 firearms conviction ruling that government wiretaps were legal. The court said the attorney general ordered the eavesdropping under national security powers.

Roswell police report Jose Luz P. Garcia 34 of 318 FE Jefferson was stabbed in the 800 block of East Tilden and died at the scene. No arrests had been made. Delores Jimenez of 823 E. Tilden reported hearing a commotion. Funeral services are pending at LaGrone Funeral Chapel.
A fire swept through the top six stories of a 43-story Frankfurt skyscraper under construction. Police evacuated nearby residents as burning debris and sparks rained down from the 990 foot structure. Investigators suspect ethylene gas stored on the top floors exploded and are examining arson as a possibility.
The Pecos Valley Horsemen led by Smokey Bunch contributed 500 to the Salvation Army. Proceeds from this year’s charity horse show funded the gift, accepted by Army Captain Rex McCulley.
Air Force Col. James Lindberg Hughes a Santa Fe resident and former North Vietnam POW says he will seek the Republican nomination for governor of New Mexico in 1974. He plans a news conference Friday to announce his candidacy after confirming the move late Wednesday night.
