Farmers anger over delay of AAA payments
Roosevelt county farmers angry over the delay in farm program payments totaling 322000 agreed to refrain from action against the State AAA staff pending investigation. Senator Hatch met with about 300 farmers and urged postponing the petition to remove state officers until he can report to Washington. Payments cover 1937 and 1938 program compliance. Banks met with county leaders and said a Saturday briefing with State AAA representatives would explain actions taken. A Portales businessman warned the withholding of payments has serious effects comparable to drought or low mood.
