Horses favored to win the $1 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs will run time trials on Wednesday. The event totals $2.53 million in purse money and tests the two top contenders under 22 seconds.
Artesia voters choose a 0.5 percent gross receipts tax increase, projected to raise about $450000 for the city. The 924 ballots represent roughly 20 percent of 4511 registered voters with 534 yes and 390 no. Precincts report varied support and opposition before the Artesia City Council moves to hire outside help for redistricting.
New cadet platoon gathers before post office as the fall semester begins with over 500 new students at the New Mexico Military Institute. Pancho McKnight and Terry Bussey plan to circulate a petition in Lincoln County to convene a special pane to reference the district attorney’s handling of the McKnights’ murder last November.
