NYPD fires officer in Garner chokehold death case
After five years of investigations and protests the NYPD fired Daniel Pantaleo the officer involved in Eric Garner’s 2014 chokehold death. Police Commissioner James O Neill said Pantaleo violated department rules and can no longer serve with the NYPD. The decision drew praise from Garner’s family and activists and anger from the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association who called for a no confidence vote against the mayor and commissioner. Pantaleo's lawyer said appeals would follow.
