Stabbing patient stabilized after Artesia attack

An Artesia man remained in stable condition at St Marys Hospital after a stabbing late Friday night. Robert Renteria 23 was arrested on aggravated assault and battery charges in the stabbing of 41 year old Harry L Shaw in the 500 block of North Main Street. A Spanish male allegedly threatened another local man during the incident. Separately Robert Allen Gibson 24 was arrested on burglary and larceny charges tied to a Sonic Drive In break in. A test drive incident involved a 1976 Trans Am Firebird taken from Durham Lincoln Mercury.

Space Hall of Fame to Induct Three Space Pioneers

The International Space Hall of Fame will honor Dr Hubertus Strughold, the late Vasily Parin, and the late Ludvik Ocenasek at a ceremony October 6. Strughold, 80, the only American, helped found space medicine and led the US Air Force space medicine program. Parin directed Soviet spaceflight biomedical research and cosmonaut care. Ocenasek, a Czechoslovak rocket designer, created and tested the first Czech rockets.
