Brand after pleading guilty to forging checks totaling 600.64 from Roswell merchants. He and Captain Zachary Dean planned to steal a MiG 15, swim the Yalu, and fly to South Korea, gathering makeshift gear, bribery, and careful routes while evading guards. The duo attempted a night escape through corn patches, undergrowth, and a pig sty, but were thwarted by rain and night blindness. They fled after a misstep, sleeping in bushes while aiming for the river and a northern exit.
