Life Sentence Handed Down To Forger Lester Greathouse

Lester Greathouse, 50, a Cadillac riding forger, received a life sentence in a precedential hearing before Dist. Judge John R. Brand after pleading guilty to forging checks totaling 600.64 from Roswell merchants. Mary Walsh, 35, of Tatum, also pleaded guilty to a forged 52 check cashed at Furr Food and was released on own recognizance with sentence deferred.

By FRANK NOEL as told to Olen Clements in Tokyo AP, a prisoner recounts four escape plots from a Communist camp in 1951. He and Captain Zachary Dean planned to steal a MiG 15, swim the Yalu, and fly to South Korea, gathering makeshift gear, bribery, and careful routes while evading guards. The duo attempted a night escape through corn patches, undergrowth, and a pig sty, but were thwarted by rain and night blindness. They fled after a misstep, sleeping in bushes while aiming for the river and a northern exit.

Man's Hip Broken In Pickup Crash Near Roswell

Robert Anthony Ater, 79, of Truth or Consequences suffered a broken hip when his 1950 GM pickup failed to make a curve nine miles west of Roswell on US Highway 70. He was taken to St. Mary's Hospital after the 11 20 a.m. yesterday crash checked by Capt. I R Funk of New Mexico Police.

New Mexico Oilman Missing on Canada Flight

A New Mexico oilman Ellis Hall and four or five aboard are missing after a flight from Annette Island, Alaska to Bellingham, via Smithers and Ashcroft in British Columbia. British Prisoner Sanders Freed by Hungary at Frontier

Edgar Sanders a British businessman released from a Hungarian jail was believed to have crossed into Hungary’s side of the Austro-Hungarian frontier aided by an embassy car. Institute Officials To Visit Ex-Cadets In Several Cities

Roswell Rider Qualifies for International Jump Team

Mrs. Suzanne Norton Jones of Roswell secured a place on the six rider international jump team after trials in Quentin Pennsylvania. The team trains in Lebanon Pennsylvania before competing in Monterey and Mexico Vy.
