Manry Completes 3200 Mile Atlantic Crossing In Tinkerbelle

Robert Maury Manry, Cleveland Plain Dealer editor, finished a 3200 mile nonstop crossing from Falmouth to England aboard the Tinkerbelle. The modest voyage ended with a harbor welcome as his family gathered for reunions and a news conference. The small boat lost a rudder and an oar, but Manry remains fit at 47 after six years rebuilding the vessel.

United jet crashes into Lake Michigan with 30 aboard

A United Air Lines Boeing 727 bound from New York to Chicago vanished in a blinding blast northeast of Chicago and plunged into Lake Michigan. Thirty people were aboard, 24 passengers and crew, with bodies recovered and a temporary morgue set up in Highland Park High School gym.

Great grandmother, 76, chases thief in Baltimore

Willie A. Carman, 76, a Baltimore great grandmother, chased a purse snatcher for five blocks after he snatched her bag as she boarded a bus. She shouted for help. none assisted. The thief escaped with $4, eyeglasses, and diabetic medicine.

J Harkness dies after Roswell car wreck

James Allen Harkness 21 died after a two car collision at South Main and Southeast Main. He was treated at St Marys Hospital for a broken leg and pneumonia. Driver Manuel Garcia 19 and two passengers received minor injuries. Harkness is survived by Mr and Mrs George Harkness.

The fair introduces an amateur rodeo replacing the professionals, a new home arts building, and a larger carnival. Capper Brothers Greater Shows will arrive for a family type carnival featuring about 40 rides. Booth space costs 100 dollars for 10 front feet. fair runs Sept 28 to Oct 2. Road improvements total over 35 thousand dollars and 70,000 visitors are expected with a 100 man crew for staffing.

City Youth Admits 21 Burglaries In Roswell

A 16 year old Roswell youth detained by city police confessed to 21 other local burglaries in the past two months. The suspect is linked to a theft of 184.50 from Roy Finton's Sinclair service station after a screen was pulled and the cash box pried open. Police anticipate additional charges for other station and business burglaries. Also reported is a 22 battery stolen from Floyds Gulf Service on North Main.

Roswell Girl Injured in Fall at Santa Fe Horse Show

A 17 year old Roswell girl Janie Bushman, daughter of Mr and Mrs Vernie Bushman, was listed in fair condition with a skull fracture after falling from a horse and hitting a jump at the Santa Fe Horse Show. The incident occurred Sunday and she was hospitalized in Santa Fe.
