New Mexico ends year with windfall from tax take

State finance officials announce 1994 revenues surged 12.6 percent over the prior year, aided by a $22 million overage in corporate income tax. Gov. Bruce King calls the picture rosy as the state maintains a sizable cash balance and plans tax cuts worth nearly $190 million over three years.

Inmates Protest Transfers at Roswell Center

Seven inmates at Roswell Correction Center who refused to work were moved to Santa Fe for relocation after complaints of unfair treatment during disciplinary hearings. RCC warden Steve Koon said inmates only must attend active count and dress properly. Edward Garcia claimed hearings are pre-decided and staff pressure exists.
