Hurricane floods hit and evacuees flee Louisiana coast
By late afternoon flood waters receded and roads opened while Red Cross shelters housed about 300 evacuees at Cameron and Weeks Island. Coast Guard rescued several from a sailboat and a mobile home was toppled near Kaplan, with one death from electrocution. Tornado watches and gale warnings affected the region as centers of the storm neared central Louisiana.
