The state Health Department says an 83-year-old man from Curry County died after hospitalization for encephalitis. A 66-year-old Curry County woman remains hospitalized and is recovering from a milder West Nile infection. Symptoms include fever nausea headache and muscle aches.
The New Mexico Supreme Court ruled unanimously that non English speaking citizens have the right to serve on juries. The decision upheld murder and related convictions, saying trial courts must protect non English speakers' jury rights and provide interpreters when needed.
Police reported a running Ford Expedition valued at 7500 was stolen from the 500 block of South Beech Avenue after the owner left it running and returned to find both the vehicle and rider gone.
