Roswell keeps Nancy Lopez Golf Course in local hands
After a year of debate the Roswell City Council approved a 10-0 vote to extend H Carlton Blewett’s management of the Nancy Lopez Golf Course at Spring River through Sept 30 2021. Blewett has run day to day operations for over seven years beat out out of state firms like Kemper Sports in Northbrook Illinois whose bid posed problems. The contract was originally to expire March 1 and was extended to September 30 while proposals were evaluated.

Bowie the Fish Named by Dexter Elementary Student
A new water feature fish at Spring River Park and Zoo has the name Bowie chosen by six year old Zeenah Sedilla Dixon of Dexter Elementary. Dixon’s entry was the winning of more than 30 submissions in a naming contest for the metallic spray fish unveiled in May near East College Boulevard and North Atkinson Avenue. Bowie invites kids to climb, and a commemorative plaque will honor the winner. Dixon earns a bicycle and helmet funded by donors who purchased and donated the fish.

Red Cross trains Roswell for disaster readiness amid Vigilant Guard
The American Red Cross in El Paso and Southern New Mexico conducted disaster preparedness training in Roswell. David Chaver, executive director, said the session aligned with government efforts to boost emergency readiness. Chavez noted Chaves County Emergency Management’s participation in the statewide Vigilant Guard drill as part of strengthening local shelter capacity.
