Grand Duke Nicholas II faced an apparent assassination attempt as Imperial Guards fired live rounds during blank firing practice in Krasnoyedselo. An investigation led to arrests. officials blamed a plotted attack amid tense security measures in St. Petersburg.

Forty steamers in the upper harbor were cut off from the lake and the span, owned by the Great Northern Railroad, was among the world’s longest.
