Vaz Family Rabbits Dominate 4-H Fair Honors
Andrea Vaz, nine, and her cousin Raymond Vaz III, eighth grade, both 4-H members at Berrendo, won top awards at the Chaves County 4-H and FFA Fair. Andrea earned Best in Barn for Cotton Candy and Best Fancy Rabbit Junior Doe, while Raymond won Best Meat Pen. The family keeps about 185 rabbits in an air conditioned barn, auctioning winners for up to $1,000. The Vazes have traveled to Colorado, Lubbock and Albuquerque for shows.

Ridge and Campbell win meat goat honors at Chaves County fair
Elyce Ridge, 14, won the meat goat grand championship at a Chaves County competition with her goat Hunter. Ridge, of Dexter and a Tip Top 4-H member, said she enjoys raising goats more than eating them and was thrilled to place first among dozens of top animals.

Fair schedule for breeding sheep and livestock shows
Today events start at 8 a.m. with breeding sheep and market lamb show, followed by a 5:30 p.m. dairy heifer show.
