Chaves County 4 H and FFA Fair Opens with Animals on Display

The 2002 Chaves County 4 H and FFA Fair starts at the Eastern New Mexico State Fair grounds. Ten 4 H clubs and four FFA groups field 215 exhibitors aiming for blue ribbons and prizes. Children like 11 year old Jon Burson showcase sheep and goats with family help, featuring Mario the white faced sheep bought for 75 dollars. The schedule runs through Friday with swine and poultry events, dairy goat shows, dog and pet shows, and a sale on Friday evening followed by releases and awards programs.

Man gets 25 years for Curry County robberies

Sixto Castillo, 22, was sentenced to 25 years after pleading guilty to two counts of armed robbery and two counts of attempted armed robbery. He and accomplice Eric Tafoya, then 15, targeted women the elderly and pizza delivery workers in December 2000. Tafoya also received a 25 year term after pleading guilty to multiple counts.
