New Orleans Aug 7 1905 federal control to coordinate yellow fever eradication with Marine Hospital surgeons backed by police power. Campaign costs estimated at 180000 to 240000 for the fever months with cleanup of the city under way and eight hundred workers deployed. Archbishop Chapelle's condition improving as messages of sympathy arrive. Secretary Shaw travels to Roanoke then to address bread shortage and Republican convention.

Wreck and Drowning Incident Near South Spring

A buggy overturned after horses frightened near South Spring. The driver, Mr Forsyth, was pinned in the top of the overturned rig and saved when the vehicle was righted. The second overturn freed the horses which then ran away without further damage.

Reports from Cleveland and Portland describe wrecks and injuries after trains struck streetcars and rowboats. W. S. Shelton arrived Saturday night from Jennings Louisiana to evaluate the water supply of Portales wells as a potential site for a pumping plant. He will remain in Roswell for two or three days.

A mass meeting at U F M Hall in Roswell drew a packed crowd as Mexicans planned committees for the September 16 celebration of Mexican Independence. Prof. J B Blea spoke at length, with Refugio Hernandez singing the national hymn. New officers were elected: Blea director, Francisco Santana assistant regent, Emiliano Sandoval second assistant regt, Francisco Hernandez president, Cosme Sedillo vice president, Marcos Sanches second vice president, Romualdo Contreras secretary, Agustin Paredes assistant secretary, Jose Maria second assistant secretary.

Hibernian Order to buy South Dakota farms for poor yield

Arrangements are nearly complete for the Ancient Order of Hibernians to purchase South Dakota land valued at 300000 to 500000 dollars to support worthy poor of the order who wish to farm. Clergy leaders from Aberdeen and Madison promote the plan with railroads offering free transport. The first settlers are expected to arrive from the East this fall. Conductor Frank McDaniel departed Sunday for Cedar Rapids to reach Galva Illinois to join his wife before returning to Roswell after urged visits.
