Herbs offer color in drought prone xeriscapes
The article notes herbs as a colorful xeriscape option for dry, water scarce settings. Debbie Boutelier of The Herb Society of America says natives adapt better and mulch or compost conserve moisture. Dennis Patton from Kansas State University Extension adds soaker hoses and drip irrigation to place water at plant bases. Xeriscaping suits arid regions from the Southwest to Canadian highlands and even Hawaii as a lower maintenance garden approach.

Shakespeare's Richard III toured prisons and senior centers
The Public Theater staged Richard III in a stripped down, mobile production for about 75 inmates at Taconic Correctional Facility and around 60 seniors at Theodora G. Jackson Adult Center in Queens. Performers use minimal props and sit with the audience, delivering a blunt, energetic revival of the Bard's tale of power and murder. The tour, led by Ron Cephas Jones, travels from New York City venues to Rikers Island and homeless facilities, continuing Aug. 6–25 at The Public Theater.
