Law agencies face delays in plane delivery

Bureaucratic mix ups slow the delivery of a surplus DoD two engine five to six seat plane to Chaves County law enforcement and civil defense. Dan Girand says forms from the state Office of Civil Preparedness or Roswell coordinator George Owen are misnumbered or missing. The plane is available under a DoD surplus program for qualified agencies.

State Sen. Eddie Barboa led with 1 228 credit card calls during the 66 day 1977 session costing 2353 98 in Mountain Bell records. He said calls were for business and staff use, while opponents question repayment.

Local girl makes historic entry in Pony Express Race

Sherry Goodloe 15, daughter of Roswell residents, enters the 41 mile Pony Express Race from White Oaks to Lincoln as the first woman to compete. She teams with Virgil Smith of Picacho to face two other male duos, with horse changes at 8.7 miles and Encinoso. The winner earns 1000 dollars, trophies, and boots. race is part of Old Lincoln Days with events through the weekend.

Charlie Brown Comes to Cahoon Park Roswell

The Mobile Theater Co of the College of Santa Fe opens a two day run at Cahoon Park Roswell with You're a Good Man Charlie Brown and En la Diestra de Dios Padre at 8 30 p m today and 1 p m Saturday. The Roswell Chamber of Development and Commerce sponsors the event. The tour of 11 nationally recruited actors spans five weeks and 40 performances across northern and southeastern New Mexico and beyond.
