Gov. Jerry Apodaca angrily denounced reporter Peter Katel for publishing investors in his racquetball venture and the $75,000 bank loan from Ben Bronstein. He claimed the loan related to buying land for a Santa Fe house. Katel traced investors through Santa Fe County records amid questions of conflicts of interest.
An Army Huey helicopter of the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment crashed during a training mission near Chaparral New Mexico killing four aboard. Maj Hubert Carter Lt Col Vincent Carifano Capt Thomas Butler Chief Warrant Officer Rodney Goheen Sgt Jeffrey Kildow all from Ft Bliss were pronounced dead. Bodies were taken to William Beaumont Medical Center El Paso as investigators probe the wreckage.
