Attacks on British by mob in Chinese city

In Tientsin Chinese mobs attacked the British International Export Corporation offices, wrecking furniture and equipment and throwing it into the Hai river. The British and Chinese staff sought refuge with American interests at the Texas Oil Company as violence continued. Threatening letters from The Chinese Patriotic Youth Association warned Britons to quit the area amid anti British sentiment linked to Japan's activities.

Japan Likely to Join Axis Ties at Lake Como Meeting

Japanese ambassadors Toshio Shiratori and Hiroshi Oshima met at Lake Como to discuss Tokyo joining the Italian-German alliance. Philturn Rocky Mountain Scout Camp Adventure Plan

An adventure camp for Senior Scouts and Scouters is planned at Philturn Rocky Mountain Scout Camp near Cimarron New Mexico. The camp spans about 35000 acres donated by Waite Phillips to the Boy Scouts of America. The trip is limited to twenty participants at roughly ten dollars per person for transport and meals, set for August 20 to 26 with registrations at the Scout Headquarters in Roswell.

Family Tragedy Blamed on Persecution in Czechoslovakia

In Chicago a coroner jury ruled that Adelia Langer 43 and her two sons Jan 4 1/2 and Karel Tommy 6 fell to death from the Congress Hotel window due to her temporary insanity driven by fear of being forced to leave Czechoslovakia. The husband Karl Langer 50 testified she spoke of taking her life and the children, after fleeing four weeks ago to the United States. He said he was nearly compelled to sell his million dollar textile plant to escape Hitler’s advances. The inquest noted the tragedy followed their escape from persecution and the attempts to secure a new life in America.

Rescued From The Hondo Aids Child Save

Three year old Dorothy Brown slipped into the swollen Hondo river yesterday afternoon. Antonio LaRiva, who was leaving his home at 109 West Albuquerque, heard cries and plunged in to pull the child from about 200 feet downstream. She suffered no ill effects and is the daughter of Mr and Mrs L H Brown of 600 South Main.

Court decision aids Middle Rio Grande farmers

A district court in Albuquerque upheld the legality of Middle Rio Grande conservancy assessments but ruled land cannot be sold for delinquent tax when assessments are unpaid. Britain Warns Japan May Send Fleet Out to China
