Oldest Roswell cottonwood felled near Yater office

The town’s oldest tree, a large cottonwood on the Lea estate behind Dr. C. M. Yater’s office, was cut Thursday to let more light into the room. Capt Frank Lea claimed it was Roswell’s first tree and had seen wildlife drink by the ditch beside it. Its fall knocked a chimney off and broke Karl Snyder’s office window.
