Scholars allege Smithsonian’s Enola Gay exhibit distorts history
Fifty two scholars urge Smithsonian Secretary Heyman to balance the Enola Gay display with alternative views. They challenge a wall label claiming the bomb prevented an invasion and note wartime leaders doubted the need for Hiroshima. The controversy preceded the 50th anniversary of the bombing.
