Valle Grande geothermal may power Albuquerque by 1981

Geothermal resources in Valle Grande northern New Mexico could generate 400 000 kilowatts for 30 to 35 years and may be online by May 1981. Union Oil and Public Service Co. of New Mexico briefed Gov. Apodaca and officials on progress. The plan envisions a 50 000 kilowatt first unit as a commercial demonstration with PSC to own plants. ERDA funding could speed development.
