RISD grades show favorable 2013-14 results overall

Roswell Independent School District reports for 2013-14 from the New Mexico Public Education Department show three A grades and six D grades among 20 schools. Elementary schools mostly earned B and C, with two high schools improving, while middle schools lagged behind their three-year averages.

Attorney requests Kintighs emails and campaign reports

Roswell attorney Marion Craig III filed two IPRA requests with the city on July 28. He seeks all emails by Mayor Dennis Kintigh to Greg Neil Larry Connelly and Roswell Daily Record staff writer Jerry Heck from March 5 to July 28 and emails to the Daily Record staff plus publisher Charles Fischer editor Timothy Howsare and cartoonist Keith Bell, plus emails between Kintigh and City Councilor Caleb Grant. He also requests all campaign reporting for Kintigh including donors and expenditures for the March city election. Craig could not be reached for comment.

July Rain Lifts New Mexico Droughts Sharply

Albuquerque and much of New Mexico saw a wet July reducing drought severity. The National Weather Service reports a quarter of the state moved from severe to moderate drought and 16 percent dropped from extreme to severe, with no area in exceptional drought for the first time since April. Albuquerque rainfall exceeded 3.4 inches in July, about 80 percent of the normal monsoon total.

VA hearing set in Roswell on veterans affairs concerns

House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Jeff Miller will host a field hearing in Roswell at the Roswell Convention and Civic Center from 11 15 a m to 1 30 p m on Wednesday. New Mexico Veterans' Services Secretary Timothy Hale will attend as veterans from across New Mexico present concerns.
