Preemptive West misreads slam, hearts faulted in club endgame
In this bridge hand West pre empted to four spades and later raised hearts to five, pressuring South. South then faced a series of missteps as distribution breaks left him with only an ace queen of hearts and blocked trumps, yielding a failed contract despite warnings from the bidding. West’s spade pre empt was costly but not decisive as South could not regain control.
