Lost Girl Found After Seven Hours Near Los Alamos

Kathy Shattuck aged 21 months disappeared late yesterday near Los Alamos and was found asleep against a log by scientist L D P King. About 800 to 1 000 people including scientists searched rugged canyons near the atomic center. Police used radio to clear the area and sounded an all clear at 12 48 a m MDT.

Trapeze Tragedy Halted As Husband Rescues Performer

A 28 year old trapeze artist, Mrs. Eileen Johansen, suffered sudden paralysis in her left arm during an act 75 feet high. Her husband Allen Johansen fastened a rope to secure her, saving her from a fall as 6,500 fans watched. She was lowered to the ground and taken to city hospital.

Blind Alamogordo Sculptor To Carve Major Golf Trophy

Alamogordo sculptor Mark Shoesmith, a blind artist with national notice, is commissioned to craft a major trophy for the international tournament of blind golfers in Toronto in July. The piece will be up to 20 inches tall, using Marble Canyon stone, and is funded by the Canadian Golfers Association. Shoesmith, director of the local adult training center for the blind, is known for works in public buildings and Eleanor Roosevelt’s Modern Madonna. Roswell Geologists Affiliate With National Petroleum Group

Jail Count Here Drops to Low of 22

After starting the week with 46 prisoners, Cha ves County jail reached a low of 22 today. Sheriff Harry Puryear said eight prisoners were transferred this week to the state penitentiary at Santa Fe, bringing total transfers since January 1 to 25 inmates.
