Cadets defeat Canyon City Military Institute in a close contest sparked by disciplined batting and strong defense. Both teams traded leads as the Cadets secure the win through late hustle and clean plays.
The Military Institute beat Canyon City 5 to 3 as Kennard hit a home run and Lehman a three bagger. Hester pitched well allowing ten hits for Roswell. Wicker struck out ten. Cadets benefited from seven Canyon City errors amid a tense late rally.
Eastern Colorado and Denver felt freezing temperatures and light snow with 22 degrees in the northeast. Grand Junction saw a low of 46, while Colorado Springs reported light snow and cold again. A Delta County fruit growers letter claimed all fruit in that area was killed. Nebraskas border to Texas faced snow and freezing, with colder weather expected.
Andrew Robinson of Wells Fargo Express and Miss Bessie Foster wed at 7 30 last night in the bride’s uncle J J Cole home on South Lea Avenue. Rev Edwin E Davis of the Presbyterian Church officiated in a small gathering. The couple, who came from Big Springs Texas two months ago, plan to settle in a cottage on South Kentucky Avenue.
The leader gave a vivid talk on gay Paris with many pictures of scenes in France and dwelt on the Dreyfus affair as an example of intrigue in Paris. Mrs J J Hagerman shared experiences in the French capital. The next meeting in two weeks will be the season’s last and include annual officer elections.
An Odd Fellows and Bekah lodge social is set for Thursday evening in Macoon Ga to mark the eighty eighth anniversary of the O O F in America. All members and visiting from other towns are invited with light refreshments to be served. Also in Macon Ga, teachers head to the forty first annual Georgia Education Association convention opening tonight under President D C Barrow of Kens and continuing through Saturday.
Missouri state board of the Young Women's Christian Association met in Joplin with all state officials and many delegates attending. The conference began April 25 and will continue through tomorrow.
Norman Oklahoma April 25. Not less than 3 000 visitors from both territories expected to witness the third annual campus track meet tomorrow and Saturday. High school teams will compete in varied events with medals for first to third places. A mile race replaces the bicycle race. Logan County high school Guthrie seeks a third win to claim the loving cup. University concerts and Y W C A luncheon add to the program.
Cornell University will not participate in the intercollegiate relay carnival at Franklin Field on Saturday due to cold weather hindering proper training. Ithaca reports the four mile team, last year’s champions, is withdrawn though several other leading eastern universities are entered.
The annual three day golf event at Lake Country club begins today in New York with many top metropolitan golfers taking part.
Nola Oliver returned last night from a trip to points up the road. Cecil Phillips and E. C. Bennett returned last night from Acme where they have been at work. Mr. and Mrs. Will T. Allen left last night for Lakewood to spend two or three days with Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Cook. Frank Crossen came down from Amarillo last night and will be here a few days while waiting for developments on the Morrow-Thomas building there. His brother, Arthur started to Amarillo yesterday morning but returned last night, having met Frank on the road.
On a new crusade President Roosevelt will again take a stand against railroads and trusts, signaling a renewed effort to curb corporate power and protect public interests.
A Washington dispatch reports President Roosevelt will use Memorial Day in Indianapolis to unveil a crusade for over-capitalization reform and federal supervision of corporations engaged in interstate business. He will present facts on railroad capitalization and seek public discussion of needed regulation.
Senator Penrose of Pennsylvania visited the White House for a social call and refused to speak for publication. Senator Bourne of Oregon also visited, denying any joint conference about a so called conspiracy against President Roosevelt.
Geo. M. Slaughter, chair of the convention executive committee, gathered Roswell leaders at the Commercial Club and, with a bottle of artesian water, dubbed the city the convention city of the United States. He recounted inviting the Panhandle stockmen’s convention in 1907 and praised local citizens for delivering a successful entertainment effort.
The remarks thank committee men for fulfilling promises in Roswell. Visitors praise the hosts, noting noble conduct and good weather as a providential fulfillment of hospitality extended in invitations.
Wichita hosts prominent Masons from Kansas and beyond for the cornerstone laying of the Scottish Rite temple addition. E W Wellington presided with grand lodge officers assisting. Judge Henry C Sluss delivered the day’s oration. The wing will include a banquet hall auditorium and stage, with completion cost about 140000 dollars.

Worcester Mass April 25 Speaker Joseph Cannon Governor Guild and Bureau of American Republics Director Barrett among a list of distinguished men set to speak at the Worcester board of trade annual banquet this evening.
A. F. Trappe, secretary of Maryland state immigration, cables that he will sail from Bremen today with 80 immigrants bound for Maryland to work on farms and domestic labor.
Cincinnati notes the Central league season begins this afternoon with Ohio and Indiana teams. The schedule lists 140 games, ending September 15.
Ogden Utah April 25 Joe Green and Muggsy Shoels of Cheyenne Wyoming have been matched to fight at the Grand Opera House tomorrow evening. The bout is scheduled at 126 pounds, ringside.

The Woman's Club met at the Carnegie Library with full attendance. Mrs. S. H. Elliott of Dexter led after returning from New York. Her first appearance since return drew an ovation as she spoke on France and the culture of Paris.

A seething furnace fires burned lard and produced a spectacular light in Allegheny causing heavy property loss and damage to the facility. Fire crews fought the blaze to prevent spread as residents watched.
Fires hit Massachusetts Lake Pleasant destroying a hundred cottages and hotels with losses around 115000 dollars. In Chicago a front of an eight story building at 356 62 Wabash Ave collapsed, possibly from remodeling weakness, causing damage estimated at 30000 to 40000 dollars. A banking association meeting and banquet followed in Batesville and Augusta with several prominent bankers in attendance.
Prof. D. N. Croft reports to the Rec ord that fruit is not all killed and foresees a fruit-bearing year. He notes marble-sized apples, some peaches plums and pears likely, with many trees protected or hardy. He predicts a partial crop from new blossoms after the freeze and local consumption next fall.
Postmaster Robert Kellahin pleads for return of a missing flag from the new flagpole at the post office corner. He notes the flag disappeared the second night of the convention and asks anyone with information to return it at once.
Details of the peace treaty between Nicaragua and El Salvador, signed at Amapala, arrive from Guatemala via cable. The accord mirrors last year’s Marblehead pact and sets up a Central American peace congress in Nicaragua and a special commercial treaty between the two nations.
Portales New Mexico April 25 Byron B Parish constable shot and killed Wm Tipton deputy sheriff during a dispute over disarming Parish. Tipton’s followers stirred fear of lynching, and Parish was moved to Hereford Texas for safety. Both men married and noted for public service. W W Gatewood hired to defend Parish.
The Connecticut state baseball league starts its championship season in New Haven on April 25 and will run until September 14. A total of 126 games are scheduled, providing one extra week of play compared with last season.
W. A. Bishop and his wife with their children have been prospecting here for a week. They left last night for Pecos to spend a few days before continuing home to Canadian, Texas.
The attorney general arrived by car from Santa Fe and entered the home.
Attorney General W C Reid returns to Roswell from Santa Fe angry over Hagerman resignation. He promises a full statement to the Record detailing an alleged conspiracy and urges deferral to Governor Curry for the dismissal act. The Pecos Valley praises his past work and awaits his resignation letter.
Norfolk April 25 The Jamestown Tercentenary Exposition races to presentable grounds for opening ceremonies tomorrow though not fully complete. The naval pageant in Hampton Roads is featured as the inaugural event. Officials expect full completion by May 15 in essential areas.
