A series of devastating fires in New York results in four deaths and twelve injuries. Emergency crews battled blazes across multiple locations as residents faced escalating danger and authorities investigated causes.
Six fires in Seattle and New York stretch the fire department for hours, with engines wrecked in collisions and several rescues reported. Four Italians die in Dispatch stable ruin, horses perish, and property losses run into millions in Port Blakeley and Toulon.
Marshall Michigan dispatch says Dr John Carver the alleged bigamist with at least 17 wives was captured yesterday at Fort Smith Arkansas. He is charged with defrauding his wives of 150000 dollars.
The Prescott recital at the Presbyterian church drew a good audience though not as large as hoped. Miss Elizabeth Garrett and Miss Helen Cooper of El Paso teamed with Mrs. Robert C. Cook of Roswell in a musical program that pleased attendees. Roswell Garrett, a native of Roswell, is cited as the daughter of Pat Garrett.
The wooden barge Arcadia, sailing from Manistee on April 12 to Two Rivers with hardwood, is presumed lost in Lake Michigan. Wreckage identified as its remains was found. captain and owner Harry May, his wife, a woman cook, and about eleven crew members are presumed dead.
The Military Institute baseball squad left this morning for Can yon City to face rivals on Wednesday Thursday and Friday afternoons. Frank Hayes, jailed at Carlsbad, faced two indictments yesterday for obtaining money under false pretenses. He allegedly cashed $10 checks drawn on the First National Bank of Tyler, Texas, belonging to R. L. Miller and J. E. Zumwalt while no funds were present. Hayes remains in jail awaiting trial.
Capt W C Reid attorney general of New Mexico will arrive in Roswell Thursday by auto to attend district court and oversee district attorney duties during J M Hervey's absence. Assistant D A C H Spencer continues to assist.
