Eastern New Mexico Medical Center honors 125 volunteers during National Volunteer Week April 21 27. The ENMMC Auxiliary started in 1958 and funds come from the Thrift Shop the Hospitality Shop memorials and dues.
Dr. George Dickerson explains in NMSU Extension Guide H-223 that sweetness levels vary by gene. Sugary enhanced se varieties are twice as sweet as standard, while sh2 super sweet varieties are three to four times sweeter but require warm soil and careful pollination. Consider texture and sweetness for home use and market.
The Wisconsin dairy promotion event Cows on the Concourse has been canceled due to insufficient coordinators. It would have marked the 25th year on Capitol Square with Farmers Market ties and dairy displays though last year replaced cows with life-size models amid disease concerns.
Applications are being accepted for ENMMC Auxiliary and Marilou Malone scholarships, funded by gifts from Baynard Malone in memory of his wife. Deadlines include May 14 for packets with three letters and transcripts. Call Lynda Whalen or Dr. LaNelle Witt for details.
Thirty six Roswell High School DECA students competed at the New Mexico State DECA Conference in Albuquerque March 7 9. Five RHS members qualified for the International DECA Career Development Conference in Salt Lake City Utah in April after contending with over 800 contestants. Rachel Huebner won first place in apparel and accessories managerial level and received a $1 000 Johnson and Wales College scholarship. Rita Mitchell took third in food marketing associate level. Crystal Montes placed third in public speaking. Cheriie Mumford chapter president earned the summit level top national award and will represent RHS on stage before 12 000 delegates at the international conference. Geraldine Lucero was elected state vice president of New Mexico DECA and will attend the International DECA Leadership Training Academy. Other students earned medals at the state awards, and several RHS members earned medals for the Virtual Business Challenge. Also noted are national award recognitions for Joseph A Moore of University High School and Alexandria K Fowler of RHS for mathematics and history government categories respectively.
Manuel Luis Sanchez Jr., a Roswell student, receives a band category award after nomination by band teacher Kent Jordan. He will appear in the United States Achievement Academy Official Yearbook, with his family named among Roswell relatives in the article.
