Henry E Samson will take office July 1 as president of the Roswell Rotary Club with Hinton Wilmot as vice president. Three Apaches Die In Auto Wreck Near Alamogordo

Three Mescalero Apache Indians died when their automobile overturned three miles west of the reservation. Arnold Kinzhana died with his wife Beshade and Roy Sundayman. Kinzhuna was once an army scout against Geronimo in the 1880s. Sundayman was the son of the late Apache scout Charles Sundayman.

Cairo April 16 British general headquarters said the Duke of Aosta Italian viceroy of Ethiopia sent an envoy to negotiate surrender. About 40 000 Italians and 36 000 native troops remained in southern Ethiopia. Desert patrols near Salam captured or destroyed Axis vehicles and took prisoners. In Tobruk sector the situation was unchanged. Royal air forces claimed four German planes destroyed at Fort Capuzzo two at Monastir and one at Derna. British said their columns advanced toward Dessie while pursuing Italians elsewhere. Libyan front and Libya’s Strait were tense with no immediate threat to Egypt.

Re-Pressuring Plant Contract Awarded at Artesia

A $250000 contract for a re pressuring plant at Artesia was let by the Loco Hills Re Pressuring Association. Sam Sanders of Sanders Bros Artesia received the contract. Work is to start in about 19 days with Hugh L Johnson Hobbs as president and Chet Dexter Artesia as vice president and GM. A meeting was set in Artesia to discuss a Maljam ar project.

Car wreck near Ratón kills Kansas man

Harry H. Loomis of Syracuse Kansas drove his car through a 250 foot barrier pit and roadside before it overturned after returning to the highway. Undersheriff B H Mitchell blamed a tire blowout on U S Highway 85 fifteen miles south of Ratón New Mexico. Motorists found Loomis body on the highway beside the wrecked car. He was driving one.

Army surveys 28 new camps for 800,000 troops

Robert P. Patterson disclosed that 28 cantonment sites are under survey to house up to 800,000 additional troops. He indicated plans consider calling 200,000 more men, but stressed no current plans to expand the Army beyond 1.4 million by June.
