Baltimore April 12 General J F Grant grand secretary of the Sovereign Grand Lodge of Odd Fellows in the United States died at the Union Protestant Infirmary where he had surgery about four weeks ago for a serious internal ailment.
A blaze at a saloon and boarding house at Elizabeth and Broadway in Grand Rapids Michigan today killed one person and left another fatally injured. Five others were less seriously hurt in the fire.
Senatobia Mississippi April 12 Sheriff J M Poag of Tate county was shot and killed today by masked men who stormed the jail to free prisoner James White who faces a murder trial Monday. One assailant was wounded in the raid.

Havana April 12 The Archbishop of New Orleans Mer Chapelle has been relieved from the Apostolic Delegate post in Cuba. The Vatican confirmed the decision after reports of personal accusations and his Rome visit last winter. He will not return to Cuba and a Vatican prelate is expected to replace him.

Lawton Oklahoma April 12 Governor Ferguson and Dennis Flynn passed through Lawton en route to Frederick to attend a banquet aimed at persuading President Roosevelt to leave his hunting camp and join the event. About a hundred attendees were expected, with several notable Oklahoma politicians among them. Frederick Oklahoma April 12 President Roosevelt and his party resumed their hunt at sunrise today showing renewed enthusiasm as weather conditions remained perfect.
