District farmer Harry Boychuk reports losses exceeding 400 dollars after bears destroyed four head of livestock including a four year old cow with calf and two yearlings. The writer accuses authorities of inaction while urging action against marauding bears.
Obituaries for Mervin W Mushumanski aged 25 of Angusville and John Kuzmak aged 65 of Sandy Lake district detail their births, relocations, and survivals. Prayers and funeral services were conducted in Greek Catholic churches with interments at local cemeteries. pallbearers include relatives and community members.
Dr. Samuel S. Peikoff of Winnipeg was installed September 10 as president of the Canadian section of the International College of Surgeons. He succeeds Dr. Charles R. Bunn of Red Deer Alta. Peikoff has taught at the University of Manitoba and served on the St Boniface Hospital staff. He now works at the Peikoff Clinic in Winnipeg. The installation occurred at the North American Federation of the College annual banquet. Peikoff previously taught at Rossburn.
Mr Joe nol euusxi of Windsor Uni spent holidays with his vicer and sister in law Mr and Mrs Mike Rodeck and Miss Linda Rodeck and Miss Inez Siwak were home for the weekend from Sacred Heart Academy where they attend school. Mr and Mrs Eugene Le moine with Mr Gordon Pindle of St Lazare visited over the weekend with Mr and Mrs Leo Mazerell at Minnedosa. Zelma Charney and Orest Salyn wed in a July 25 1964 double ring ceremony at Sacred Church Rossburn officiated by Rev Lehky. The bride wore satin brocade gown with a crystal crown veil and pink and white roses. A reception followed at the Rossburn Town Hall with a dance and toast. The couple will reside at 85 First St Yorkton Sask.
A sewing course meeting is set for Wednesday September 30 at 1 30 p m in the Rossburn Town Hall. The Home Economist will attend. All interested ladies are invited to attend.
The Roman Catholic parish updates Sunday mass times with services in Rossburn at 9 00 a m Oakburn at 11 30 a m and Shoal Lake at 8 00 p m for the day.
The Rossburn Medical Nursing Unit Administrative Committee met Sept. 21 1964 at 8 p.m. in the hospital chaired by B Mitchell with L Hrysak W Perchaluk P Wladyka S Melnyk A Cleland and administrator S B Labovich present. The group adopted August 17 minutes and approved the 1965 budget draft from Associated Hospitals of Manitoba. They planned lighting upgrades, noted invitations to the Manitoba Hospital and Nursing Conference in Winnipeg Oct 6-8 1964, and discussed sending a caretaker to the Maintenance Institute in Brandon Oct 28-30. The financial report was approved and the committee authorized renting a safe deposit box at Toronto Dominion Bank to store bonds before adjournment.
Annual meeting of the Birtle Russell Progressive Conservative Association will be held at the Rossburn Town Hall on Friday evening October 2. Guest speaker will be Barry Strickland M L A for Hamiota and MU A for Birtle Russell will attend alongside Hon. R. G. Smeliie. Everyone welcome.
All students adjust after a tied election between Gold and Purple parties. Juniors cede offices to Seniors to form a coalition. Officers include President Robert Stupinsky and Editor Gloria Kostesky with room representatives and class designations. A $100 scholarship is set for Graduation Exercises in Town Hall on Oct 3.
