Warm nights and cool days with high humidity slow harvests. An electrical storm Friday morning followed a warm damp air flow from the south, keeping harvesting operations suspended.
Large vegetables dominate garden reports this year
A parade of oversized harvests includes a 9 lb cauliflower from Joyce Brown and a 4 lb 2 oz potato from Harry Starczuk of Oakburn. Other entries note turtle shaped potatoes from Mrs V Halliday Vista and a 7 foot potato vine in Charlie Derlago’s garden with peas blooming a second time. A correction says Mrs Melvin Barnesky grew a 3 lb 6 oz potato, not a cabbage.
