Community of Concern forms Westman Chapter with officers
The Westman Chapter of Community of Concern announces a slate of officers and a steering committee led by Chair Cheryl Dando. Representatives Rev Tom Delgat and Joan Shamray join the committee to push the movement within Brandon area United Church circles and urge inclusivity for unsettled members amid debates on ministry eligibility and church status. A general meeting at Central United Church, Brandon, on Sept 18 at 7:30 p.m. will address directions from the national group on options within the United Church.

Post Office Hours Cutback Hits Rural Manitoba Offices
Canada Post plans to reduce hours at more than 600 offices across Canada affecting towns including Birtle Hamiota Shoal Lake Strathclair and St Lazare. In this area hours drop range from five to twenty with two staff cut in Birtle and one in other communities. Local postmasters say the timing will alter mail sorting and deliveries next month. Al Hunter of the Manitoba Postmasters Association urges residents to contact Winnipeg officials with concerns.

Seniors to gain boost in old age pension benefits
Federal Old Age Security, Guaranteed Income Supplement and Spouse's Allowance will rise in October in line with the cost of living. The Old Age pension for 65 plus increases to 351.41, GIS for a single person to 417.61, and for a married GIS recipient to 272.01. Spouse's Allowance for low income 60 to 64 married to GIS recipients increases to 623.42, widowed Spouse's Allowance to 688.26. Adjustments occur quarterly via the CPI.
